PERRONE WATERING INSTRUCTIONS

LEARN WHAT WE RECOMMEND

Here are some helpful guidelines for watering your newly planted grass seed.  For proper germination the new lawn areas need about one to two inches of water per day.  The best time to water is early morning. Night watering can cause funguses, and watering in the heat of the day you can lose half of the water through evaporation.

When new seed is put down you should water three times daily for fifteen to twenty minutes. The soil should never be dry, you should always notice the soil is darker when properly watered. Let the lawn grow until 3 ½ inches or more before mowing. Mowing should be kept at 3” to stay healthy.

Note: Proper watering of the new lawn is essential to the development of the grass. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to water the newly planted grass. Washout of seeded areas due to heavy rainfall runoff may occur and is impossible to prevent, if that does occur, we will wait until grass establishes.

HOMEOWNER’S WATERING INSTRUCTIONS

Perrone Landscaping Inc. provides professional seed products and applications. Our business installs premium grass seed. We practice current installation techniques and use the best possible products. Your new seed needs your attention to grow into a lush green lawn. Water is the key element in the life of your newly installed seed.

Grass seed needs a continuous supply of moisture for germination and root establishment. The moisture must come from rainfall or irrigation (manual or automatic). It is highly improbable that it will rain every day for the two weeks following your seed installation. It is the responsibility of the owner to water frequently to keep the soil moist to ensure seed propagation.

In times of heavy rains, after a new seed application, some pooling, puddling, or webbing can occur. Over-seeding by hand or raking these rivulets with a soft rake can help re-distribute the seed evenly as necessary.

Your lawn needs food to survive. Lush green lawns are the product of continuous care, proper mowing techniques, and fertilizer/pest programs. Seeding is only the first step in achieving a lush green lawn with sufficient, sustainable root structures. Typical lawn propagation takes two full growing seasons with proper maintenance to achieve a mature product. It is your responsibility to propagate this product post application. We can provide recommendations for both fertilizer and lawn care contractors in your area upon request. We also provide recommendations for irrigation systems where available.

Initial Watering

During the establishment phase, watering once a day during the months of March through April is generally sufficient. On hot summer days, watering three to four times a day may be necessary. Try to avoid puddling or washing, but water thoroughly. A secondary phase of watering can begin once the grass is 1” tall. Reduce frequency to once or twice per week. Hot summer will require three times per week. Reduce or discontinue watering during wet or cool periods.

Mowing
Weeds are a common place in any new lawn. It is a matter of fact that you will not be able to prevent weeds from seeding in your newly raked loam. The seeds are airborne and will find a place in your lawn. Weeds are worked out with the first full season of lawn care application. DO NOT use weed killer or pre-emergent fertilizer on a new lawn. It will prevent a newly seeded lawn from growing properly.
